JR is objectively an awful announcer now. He knows virtually nobody, and needs to constantly relate each one to figures he somewhat remembers. He has zero energy while commentating and cannot recognize maneuvers in this era. He gets snarky over his own ignorance, often stopping the momentum of commentary to catch him up. He's the most guilty of calling performers by their previous names and adds absolutely nothing but his own bitterness over the fact that today's wrestling isn't yesterday's.
I first got my experience with Nu JR on NJPW commentary and he was just so goddamn bad that I stuck with the Japanese commentary because even if I don't know what the fuck they are saying, at least they have some fucking energy and don't sound bored out of their minds being there.
It's clear that he's there to be a name and for them to siphon whatever good PR they can get for having had him on commentary when he dies.
