It was pretty ironic, given how hair metal got blackballed from media coverage to make way for grunge/alt rock. But unlike hair metal fans, grunge/alt rock fans refused to be silenced and made PLENTY of noise to prevent their erasure from the mainstream, with bands like Garbage, STP, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, among others staying relevant and fighting tooth and claw for mainstream coverage.
