What they COULD had do was slower it. Idiotic decisions like Austin turning heel, Steph having any role, buying WCW (that alone made a good chunk of wrestling fans just stop watching, especially in the south) and having that aborted joke of an Invasion storyline only helped the ratings deep diving even quickier
