I think he was tied for so long to the idea of reviving NWA and being the centerpiece of that that he or Billy couldn't see what got them there in the first place.
He was massively overrated after the Cody match and it went to his head. They didn't realize the main reason anybody cared again was because the belt was being showcased outside the walled garden, not necessarily because of him. They could have used that again especially once they went sub only.
They should have tried to play ball with AEW, Impact, or anybody with a higher profile instead of just jobbing to Murdoch. Ryder is alright.
