Sure, but I think it being single elimination took the wind out of its sails since people were hoping for a G1 style actual round robin instead of an eight-man bracket.
Having arbitrary qualifiers with arbitrary participants, including tag teams, are worse problems than mystery opponents.

Qualifiers for a single elimination that are just "if you win, you're in" aren't really qualifiers, they're just the first round.

IF they had some special rule like how quickly you beat your opponent was the reason you get in that'd make them proper qualifiers.

This Owen tournament has been handled so badly. Should've had a massive opening ceremony with trophy reveal, kino video packages, a 16 person bracket. Instead you get endless qualifying matches, a crap lineup in the 8 anyway, joker entrants. And then Tony books the men's tourny for Adam Cole, the women's has already lost the three best in it (Shida, Hayter, Riho).

I can't imagine it being anyone too huge, so a Jeff Cobb feels about right. Cuz as it stands they'd be sacrificing either the ability to have "SAMOA JOE VS JEFF HARDY ON PPV" or a big pop debut's momentum. But Tony has done that before.

A NJPW guy helps establish the guys at the PPV in 6 weeks and I FEEL like it makes the most sense if they get a reasonably big name, a new debut or a returning Miro would set them off quickly, and they could easily go the distance.
