Zaslav’s vision on cost cutting :
>Dave quoted an article on The Wall Street Journal about David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery, portraying his role in cost cutting, noting he grilled executives on greenlighting a Clint Eastwood movie “Cry Macho,” which they didn’t expect to turn a profit. Zaslav asked why they did and was told it was Eastwood, who had made the studio tons of money over the year and never delivered a movie late or over budget, but he didn’t care about history and said, “We don’t owe anybody any favors.”
>WBD are cutting back on spending, which no matter how people portray AEW ratings, is not a good sign for AEW and a balance of power in wrestling. Zaslav pulled the plug on CNN+ when it opened very weak, but it was also only out a month, and canceled a DC Comics superhero movie “The Wonder Twins” planned because he felt a $75 million budget made no sense for a movie primarily slated for a streaming service.
>As reported before, Zaslav is promising to cut $3 billion in costs, which also is not a good sign of a major change in a rights fees deal and said the company intends to have the highest level of financial discipline there is. They are also going to merge HBO Max with Discovery +.
