If you are a wrestling viewer who don't spend 5+ hours of your day interacting with the internet:
>Cody Rhodes is more over than CM Punk
>Seth Rollins is more over than CM Punk
>The Miz is more over than CM Punk
>Charlotte Flair is more over than CM Punk
>Becky Lynch is more over than CM Punk
If you don't read the internet or watch AEW:
>if you watched the pipebomb promo you don't remember it
>CM Punk? The guy who wrestled Cena a decade ago? That was pretty cool. Whose this old guy?
>defining characteristic you probably remember about Punk was he was straight edge tattoo man who took his ball and went home
>you don't know any insider dirtsheet stuff
>you have never read a CM Punk interview
This is like putting the belt on Randy Savage or Piper 10 years after they were relevant. They may arguably be way more memorable and entertaining than Hogan ever was, but Hogan had the proven track record and was biggest name in the world.
Punk was great back in the day. He wasn't Cena, Orton, or Lesnar. He's the same level as the Miz, despite being such a different character. He thinks he's The Rock, and to 1/4 of the audience he was. He lacks the appeal to pull that off in a major fed though, he'd have worked best long term in old ECW. Here in AEW some of the fans will now turn on him, it's only a matter of time. He's officially the old man champ.
