AEW has done a bunch of tournaments recently and there was nothing setting the format of this one apart. Also the people who won were already extremely well-established in the company and gained nothing from it.

Why should anyone get invested in a tournament with no stakes? What's the keyfabe reason for the wrestlers participating in the tournament? It might not be so bad if the winners got money or a title opportunity but what did they actually get, novelty belts and a trophy we'll likely never see again. The whole thing was a waste of time and it didn't elevate a single participant.

There was no rhyme or reason to the format of the tournament. They were just random matches that were vaguely connected. They had a men's 1st round match the same day as a men's 2nd round match. They should have either had semifinals and finals on the same show, or had all the semifinals on the same show. Also it was a tournament to honor Owen Hart and all anybody wanted to do was Bret Hart tribute spots.

Maybe the wrestlers should have been ones that actually wrestled Owen (At least Jeff Hardy and Billy Gunn have). Or at least have them be wrestlers who were around when Owen was still alive.

Yeah, I noped tha fuck out when none of these zoomer faggots ever watched or cared about Owen Hart. They have enough fossils on the roster with semi-connections to Owen Hart, they should have paraded those fags out: Arn Anderson, Jake The Snake, William Regal, etc. And maybe cough up some dough and bring in jobbers like Koko B. Ware or at least have someone dress up as the Blue Blazer. Why not? The tournament itself already disrespects Owen's memory, might as well go full load.

Everyone knew this was just a loosely held together string of matches for the sake of giving wrestlers something to do.
The biggest problem with the tournament happened at the end where two heels that won had to act respectful because of the subject matter.
I hope they never do this again.

It should hopefully be better next time but them not knowing what they were doing really killed this one. First there was several months between the announcement and any actual information, then the qualifiers started and lasted for months and still didn't provide any information on what the tournament was or what it was for, then they finally ended up with a shitty midcard bracket that had to rely on John Hennigan and Maki Itoh as surprise guests, and then nothing about the tournament itself was exciting or particularly well like down to the finals. In the end the two obvious winners just got their name on a cup and an ornamental belt.

Owen´s hart legacy hurt the tournament more than benefited it. Everyone was like "Uuuh why a heel won it, why a Michaels guy won it? Why those spots on a Owen Hart tournament?" as if the guy was never a heel, a really good one at that, and he had probably his best match and his biggest win against Bret on WM X being a heel.

Also that ceremony and once again another belt that means literally anything. Tony Khan really likes to give trinkets that nobody cares about and there is no point or effort of elevating: The brass ring, the giant casino chip, the DDP ring that is basic, the FTW championship... Most of them appear once and then dissapear. We will never see those ugly pink belts never again after like two weeks at most. Alsto if you wanted to honor Owen Hart then give them a trophy like the one Owen used to carry everywhere and put over.

Also that fucking ceremony. They really wanted to pad time. Jesus.

TL;DR If they just called AEW presents the spotfuckfest or nothing tournament people would have been happier.

Single elimination tournament with a bunch of tag wrestlers was dumb ON PAPER I have no fucking idea why they did it that way. Because Owen was a tag guy who went to singles? It was just stupid. Should've been round robin like G1.

Tournaments in wrestling should either be for the world title or for a shot at the world title in the biggest stage possible, anything else and it's just white noise. Also, this isn't just an AEW thing, but having obligatory female versions of everything really dilutes things, female Royal Rumble, female Money in the Bank, female Survivor Series match, female Owen...

A tournament to honor owen hart but there wasn't much thought past that. They could've gone the route of picking only wrestlers know for their technical skill like Danielson and Moriarty. They could've had a fan vote to pick the participants and stand out, atleast separating it from a normal tournament. They could've had it all on one special, preferably replacing one of the battle of the belt shows since it sucks. Could've been tag team wrestlers only or say Bret hand picked the participants. Could've had a round robin style tournament. Idk why they HAD to have a women's Owen either since that felt extremely forced and the women literally just had a tournament. Idk all in all it just felt like another tournament I didn't care about with winners I didn't care about and participants without a tie to owen having mediocre-good matches

Because it was a random midcard tournament won by a guy who has lost everything he has done so far. There is no prize for winning. He just lost a world title programme so he isn't moving on to challenge again. What is the purpose? No main event guys were in it. It wasn't important.
Women's one was even worse and having men's and women's editions is stupid. Have a mens tournament for a month. Do a women's one at a different time. They have done 2 women's tournaments before, they didn't need this.
