>>5862434Because AEW fans are living vicariously through Tony Khan. He is a rich, spoilt kid who never had to work for his dad's fortune. He was a wrestling fan who grew up in the smark bubble and traded tapes of ECW shows. Tony Khan, because of his dad's money, gets to own and run his own wrestling promotion as both the promoter and the head booker who's roster consists of a bunch of ex-WWE stars and a slew of indie wrestlers who only focus on the in-ring stuff. And Tony believes that his company is a competitive threat to Vince's company and is making him feel scared. That is the dream of a hardcore wrestling fan.
Now, look at Tony's personality. He's geeky, awkward, meek, socially inept, has immature outbursts, does not exude any sort of leadership or macho personality that Vince has. He may as well be the antithesis to Vince Mcmahon in every single possible way. And since AEW fans hate Vince, they prefer him to be that way. But those personality traits also reflect the AEW fan that posts on Reddit about wrestling. They relate more to the geek than the tough guy. They see themselves in Tony Khan. They admire that he's showing all this childish, unprofessional behavior over the squeeky clean, corporate image Vince tries to put on because these redditors are also childish and immature. They attribute his geekyness towards wrestling as "passion" whereas others see it as cringy and weird. Everything about Tony comes off as cool to these people because they would want to be seen as cool for those same reasons rather than change or grow up.
To AEW fans, making fun of and attacking Tony Khan means you are doing the same to them. They dream of being the rich, wrestling fan that runs a major promotion. Any of Tony's flaws and mistakes are excused because they can't imagine how they would do things better than him. They don't want to because of that parasocial connection to him.
TL;DR: AEW fans dream of being Tony Khan.
