The difference is that with Roman, it was forced. Much like how memes work. See? When you spam wojaks in response to everything, it's not funny and just makes you a bandwagoning faggot. The booking.
Having Sting allign with him was fine, but it sort of ruined his loner buzz. But he didn't just align with him, they became some cartoon duo who never seperated. Darby became Sting's lil buddy and that hurt his presentation badly.
The bigger issue with Darby, and literally everyone in AEW, is that the booking is horrible and makes no sense. The marks call it long term but it's just incoherent nonsense. Everything is either rushed out without any build or dropped for months and then thrown on TV suddenly.

Yeah, the slow build to him beating Cody for the TNT kinda slotted him into this position of "oh he can take losses and still be over", it's a bit frustrating as a fan of his, but it is what it is. Hope him retiring Sting for real comes sooner rather than later.
