The fact that MJF's speech sounds like it was written by Jim Cornette was proof enough that AEW is trying to control the conversation on their flaws. There are other voices in wrestling that complain about other flaws but only Cornette's gripes are embraced and addressed in a productive matter. Bischoff's comments on Punk were brand new and sent Tony off a fucking cliff.

I mostly agree but justifying its bad by saying the show lost viewers after it happened it pure fucking autism. Both these guys say regularly that segments can’t be judged on one single rating, there needs to be a pattern.

I also think they’re both a little annoyed that they were as worked by the angle as everyone.

If Stone Cold and Dude Love showed up in ECW to wrestle the Dudley Boyz in 1997, it'd have a lot of interest but they would've gotten booed out of the building for being outsiders. Personally, I liked the 2019 line-up and wanted to see AEW get these people over while scouting and acquiring unknown indie talent. Instead they let their homegrowns go and seek WWE people to look like a more popular TNA (I don't care if Impact drew twice the eyes as Dynamite when Paramount Network was still Spike, they never did the gates or buyrates of AEW.)

the drop straight after the mjf promo is pretty standard. typically, aew manages to retain some viewers from their lead-in for one or two quarters depending on how heavily they front-load their shows. in this case it was punk and then mjf, so they heavily front-loaded. typically this casual/lead-in crowd will fuck off in droves at during the next advertising break after the opening segments are done.

Meltzer is such a major hypocrite with this shit. I remember when the OC vs Chris Jericho match did a poor number and said it reflects poorly on OC and the company should stop pushing him. Didn’t say a word about Jericho though.

I think the problem with this promo was it was directed at the fed and owner and those type of shoot promos only work under certain circumstances. MJF is trying to be like Punk here but the issue there is Punk's promo while directed at WWE and Vince had an embodiment in Cena. Cena was a major star but some of the crowd was sick of him, so he got to embody WWE. This helped to focus a lot of Punk was saying and keep it from just being a "Im shitting on the company I'm in" which looks bad. Tony let MJF do this promo with no one to personify AEW, and now it looks retarded no matter how you cut it, shoot or work.

Make no mistake about it, Tony funded AEW but it isn’t where it is today without the Elite and Cornette regularly says fucking horrible things about those guys. Tony should be backing his wrestlers and not taking advice from some boomer cuck who’s never ran a successful promotion in his life.

I often wonder what the boys think about that. Cornette spends 40 minutes talking about how ugly Riho is and how Kenny is a pedophile and Tony actually takes what he says into consideration.

AEW didn’t get popular booking shit that made Cornette happy.

The elite are the worst part of the show most of the time and their shit is just as bad as Tony's. It is weird that he claims to be this numbers guy, but Riho and Yuka both get amazing reactions and bumped ratings a lot early on but he's cut both of them down to being jobbers now.

I like Riho, probably in my top 2 or 3 in the division. But you can't do much of anything with someone that doesn't talk and has no intention of ever learning the language. Shida is less understandable, as she talks better English than Asuke, but with Riho and Yuka there's a pretty hard ceiling there. And with talent like Hayter, Deeb, Storm, Athena it's kind of hard to justify having them at the top these days.
