Honestly, it was probably partly Its partly Tony's fault for his notoriously scatterbrained and terrible booking. Seeing Cody in WWE, and knowing he's free of Tony's booking, its clear he knows how to put together a story.
But in AEW... yeah man. If you didn't watch the Cody saga, with him trying to shove the dimeless Brandi down everyone's throats, wasting show time and money for a giant pyro display for a fucking gender reveal... he was beyond obnoxious and it was terrible.
You just gotta understand how bad it was. here were only two options. Either he was being THAT obnoxious because he was setting up a heel turn, or he was just actually that obnoxious and thought he could be a flaming retard forever without people turning on him. Then he started cutting promos about how he's "Not turning heel" and yeah. He basically confirmed that all the insufferable shit he was doing was, in fact, not a planned heel turn and actually just him being a faggot. It was too much. He deserved the boos in AEW, great matches or no.
