The whole of AEW was a work to get him back into WWE. The guy is on another level.

And by "another level" I mean he isn't injured and this is all a work too. I don't think people realise just how massive the Cody Expanded Workiverse has become.

He's been setting up to this as far back to when he first debuted. All those shitty undercard tag teams with Bob Holly and Ted DiBiase and Damien Sandow, the shitty mustache gimmick, endless hours on taped smackdowns doing matches against dolph ziggler, all because he saw this vision for years and wanted to give it some underdog merit. You don't think he was building up to an eventual Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust match, which happened years later in AEW, when he was teaming with his brother and doing the Stardust shit? It was probably even Cody's idea for his dad to wear the polka dots so 35 years later a heel can wear the same design his dad wore just to taunt him.
