Lance is all in on the "psychology" meme. He, like most old wrestlers, have kayfabed themselves into thinking wrestling psychology is actual psychology (ie a statistically backed science). It's actually more of a religious dogma.

They do cheer him very loudly when he announces he doesn't want to be there and they cheer loudly when he asks to be fired. That is when to cheer a heel, when they threaten to leave. They also cheered when he said the ex-WWE shitters weren't fit to lace his boots because he's right, MJF is better than anyone who can't hang in Nick Khan's WWE. How can you boo a man for being right? Other than that, he gets booed a lot in the promo because he's a heel and most of the fans treat him like one. It isn't like all of the stupid cool heels trying to pop the crowd and sell t-shirts.

They do have a point with "as a heel avoid saying stuff people might agree with." But equally I think that this will work out because I'm the guy convinced this is MJF vs Eddie.
