is the show "prime time wrestling" worth watching?

I've been watching wwf starting from 1985 and I'm currently on 1996. Somebody made a pdf of all the wwf content on peacock so I'm going through and watching everything in order.

it seems like prime time wrestling has a lot of repeat matches that have already been shown before, but the commentary with bobby the brain and gorrilla monsoon is cool.

curious what you guys would recommend.

Most of the wrestling is glorified squash matches from MSG, the old Boston Garden or Spectrum in Philly. But the banter between Heenan and Monsoon is the draw, especially in hindsight with some of the things the Brain said that would cause a shitstorm these days.

Coked out promos from back then is why wrestlers from that era are more memorable that most of the vanilla jabronis from the past 10 years or so.

Primetime was pretty unique at the time. Almost all wrestling shows were filled with squash matches up until that point and PTW actually had competitive matches, though not with the main eventers. It was also the first time people outside of regional area's got to see matches from various house shows. Believe it or not, the bigger arenas like MSG, The Boston Garden and The Philadelphia Spectrum either had specials or networks that they'd air WWF shows on, which is unusual today. MSG still has one today IIRC. People were later on able to create unofficial versions of unreleased house shows from footage aired on PTW, the International version of Wrestling Challenge (which wasn't available in the US and featured many matches never aired elsewhere) and Coliseum Video releases, which was pretty cool.

PTW has the legendary commentary duo of Heenan and Gorilla. Basically every heel/face commentary duo you see today stems from them and every heel announcer you see today either stems from Heenan or Jesse Ventura. They'd do skits, Heenan would cut heel promos on various wrestlers he was feuding with and they'd build up various storylines.

The show changed by 1990 and was done by 1992. The various arena's all stopped doing local feeds of shows by that point except for MSG, Heenan slowed down and the roster was smaller with less people coming in thanks to the WWF killing off most of the territories.

It's also worth noting that while it seems like they aired a decent amount of footage, it's absolute nothing in the grand scheme.The WWF had something like over 750+ house shows during the peak Hulk years and 99% of it was likely never even taped.

Yeah, it was insane. They had three different touring groups and they'd have afternoon and night shows. They run MSG with Team A while running a high school gym with Team C. And instead of doing like NYC > NJ > Philly, they'd sometimes do bizarre routes like San Diego > NJ > CT > Alberta. It's no wonder most of the guys got addicted to pills and died young.

Yep. It's a sad thing. I can maybe get not releasing shows, but not recording them period is just plain dumb. I can excuse some of it from the 80's when they didn't know about the internet, but I think it's incredibly dumb in this day and age when everyone has a VOD service and is looking for more footage for it.

I started recording house shows I went to in the late 2000's and I encourage everyone else to do the same. I have a unseen TNA house show, I have most of one or two NXT house shows that nobody else saw and I released some Japanese shows that didn't get aired. I just don't really go to events much anymore and youtube's search algorithm is so bad that I don't even think you could find a lot of it even if it got uploaded.
