Because there wasn't 3 + 2 + 2 + (1 non-live) hours of live pro wrestling on national TV every week. Saturday Night's Main event wasn't even weekly. If you wanted to see live wrestling, you were going to the shows. You also weren't being inundated with obsessed smarks' opinions swaying your perspective.

Overexposure didn't ruin Hulk Hogan, it ruined pro wrestling.

Road Warrors were awesome. As a kid I rented Stacade 86 in maybe 89 or 90 and seeing them drop pumpkins from the top of the building saying Midnight Expresses heads were going to splatter just like the pumpkins seemed legit... more legit than say your prayers, eat your vitamins, crap. Not too mention they were actually legit athletes. Animal's genes passed on to a guy who was big enough and athletic enoguh to be a LB in the NFL.

He had charisma. Sometimes he would scramble his words which was funny, but if he had that intense look and was screaming at the screen it felt real. Plus it seemed like he could legit kick ass.

From the shoots he also seems like a pretty levelheaded guy. I was kind of shocked when I first saw one. And he's still alive... that's a plus.
