Here is his problem: he has a character in the same way that a main event star has a character but he has not made the same journey as a main event star yet. Main eventers usually climb the ladder and play their dues. They get simple, high concept gimmicks as they try to make it in the midcard. The greats transcend their gimmick and develop little nuances and ways to connect with the crowd as they become more than the gimmick that they started with. The audience gets invested in them through this journey. Eventually they may even discard their gimmick entirely and their name becomes synonymous with their character. Ethan Page hasn't gone through that yet.
