It was truly a great period for WWF that is often overlooked since WCW was killing them in the ratings at the time. It's really unfortunate that Bret didn't stay with WWF. Vince picked Shawn instead but Shawn was gone too after WrestleMania, which of course was a blessing since his absence forced Vince to push other guys instead. But imagine the damage to the locker room that adding HBK would have been to WCW too. I wonder if Vince ever regretted his decision.

it all worked out for him, for wrestling fans and our culture who knows, if you watch it with hindsight and the way everyone booed bret for just saying the morally right thing it almost foretold the disaster we are in today
if you havent listened to something to wrestle with bruce prichard podcast you should -- vince isnt talking, pat is dead, and no one has been as close to vince for as long so he has the best stories, i recently found the podcast and listen to 1-2 everyday at work

He spends 90 minutes of 1 episode explaining why wrestlers should just try make what they're given work, give it their all, and absorb creative influences from outside wrestling and work it into mannerisms & persona. How if you want to be a tough guy, go do MMA, and if you wanna pretend to be a tough guy it always gets found out. Get the impression as top a bloke as he is, and as many as he recruited for NXT, he seethes at half the modern generation.

Even so I still respect Vince he made a wrestling empire. More like an clown empire. Wwe draws a larger mass bigger audience because of the reality TV garbage he incorporates into the show. If wwe wasn't an episodic weekly TV drama there is no possible way that large fan base would tune in.

I dare Vince to run a month or two without all the drama and mic time and book professional wrestling matches. Not only would he never take the chance (my dare) but the promotion would fall flat on it's face

Think about NXT in the HHH era. That worked for me I actually tuned in to see NXT but why in the world would Vince turn it into NXT 2.0? P

Nope. It was Bret. Twice Vince tried to make him the guy and it ended up with year long Yokozuna and Nash title runs. That's how much Bret was a failure as a "The Guy" that Vince actually decided to put the belt on Yokozuna and Kevin Nash. People have always known it was fake except for some southerners. But atleast it had larger than life people in compelling storylines that made it entertaining. Now that the larger than life superheros and storylines to be invested in are gone, there is literally no point watching it. Its just average looking guys performing choreographed acrobatics.
