>>6130999I won’t even pretend to know anything about the person behind the character, because the truth is, I don’t.
What initially got my attention was the Kidd Bandit trademark rainbow hair. I was drawn to her almost eGirl charm and seemingly adorable nature but never actually pulled the trigger on a deep dive into his work, until today.
WOW.
Before seeing Kidd Bandit in the ring, my initial reaction to the character was that they could easily be alternative america's sweetheart as babyface. While that is obviously still the case, I quickly realized that the depth to them is astounding. I now see the potential they have to be absolute menace. A nightmare, if you will.
In my 3 hour fan session, the first thing I noticed (and was delightfully impressed with) was the personality shown before the bell even rings. Unfortunately in today's world a lot of personality is applied in a paste. This is far from the case with Kidd Bandit. Somehow they made me forget about the trademark do with both their subtle character work and their larger than life expressions. The crowd work and polite/respectful shit talking was a joy to experience. Once the bell rang, they continued to impress. The movements we’re smooth and calculated and the crowd work remained engaging. The matches made sense to me, and I believe that's important. Nothing seemed out of place. They gave up a good amount of size to their opponents in every match I watched, yet didn’t insult my intelligence in the slightest. They didn’t wrestle like an underdog either, which I liked. They come across tough and fearless (qualities I hope they carry over in their personal life). I can honestly say I found that made them intimidating in a way I’m not sure I have experienced before. BRAVO Kidd, keep it up. Pro wrestling needs a protagonist, and underrepresented youth needs a hero!
Talented, fun, and adorably menacing. If you haven’t already, check out Kidd Bandit. I'm officially a fan.
