Rick owns the name.
They have no problem booking Rick for segments, or making Steiner metajokes, or dressing Bron in Steiner tights. But they have to own 100% of the wrestler's slave name in perpetuity.
I wonder what kind of deal Cawdy actually cut for his own shit. It's possible he sold literally everything and is making it appear otherwise.

With Cody they basically HAD to let him use his AEW stuff. He's the flagship "The fed will treat you right" guy to try and woo people into jumping ship. If he gets called something the E own and given a generic theme that sends a bad message.
