He hasn't been a top guy in a while, i'd say since Jericho beat him at WK, the current top guys in NJPW are Okada, Naito, White, Ibushi (if he is still getting booked), Takagi, Ospreay.

Tanahashi hasn't been a top guy since he lost to Okada at the dome passing the torch. He was slotted into the senior role after that not being allowed to become the guy until Omega left and that was for only a month.

6-3.5 in AEW's favor (Archer counts as half), so yeah, from that perspective it's a pretty big win.
But who did New Japan actually have take the fall that is a big deal? Hiroshi Tanahashi and Zack Sabre Jr. Two Tier 2 guys in terms of push. None of New Japan's top guys jobbed.

This was AEW's show, its okay if they had a slight advantage and ultimately who did lose had clear reasons to take the loss, ZSJ was against a guy that is gonna get a big push in AEW, Cobb and O-Khan lost their belts to FTR because NJPW is interested in using them, Tanahashi had nothing to offer to AEW in terms of recognition and its not like he was getting any push in NJPW either, Connors just got a gimmick after being a young lion and he shouldn't even have been present for that match, the guys who lost in tag matches don't even count since they were all multiman tags.
