a collection of previously thought lost texts from "gnostic" sects that the Vatican thought they had literally exterminated centuries ago during their age of inquisitions
they were found by chance in a cave
in the middle of the desert
while the entire world was embroiled in World War II
so no religious authorities were paying attention to do anything about its discovery
as an aside if that's not evidence of divine intervention I don't know what could be better circumstantial evidence for it
anyway I read those and that just began a very long and winding rabbit hole where I started reading every possible religious text I could get my hands on
after a while you start to notice how many stories and scriptures run parallel or are just outright copied from others
and it seems to always somehow circle back to those once lost gnostic teachings
