2) They had to show the people in the AEW locker room, if you come here, we'll push you and we'll pay you. So they can try and get more guys to jump eventually.
But it also carried the exact consequence you described, it showed WWE's locker room that if they jump, not only will the AEW crowd welcome them in like Gods, but they'll be more valuable to WWE. Which is, you know, EXACTLY HOW WRESTLING USED TO BE FOR DOZENS AND DOZENS OF YEARS. WHEN YOU HIT YOUR CEILING IN ONE TERRITORY, YOU WOULD GO TO ANOTHER!
This is exactly why WWE wanted to smother AEW in the crib. They're legitimate competition and when there's legitimate competition, the talent has more leverage and can increase their value. This is WWE's worst nightmare. It's good for everybody else, though.
