He was one of the first few who jumped from WWE. Moxley jumped before AEW even existed, but it was Matt Hardy, then Brodie Lee. It was kinda a big deal just to set the precedent for the absolute deluge that followed.
I'm glad Jeff has hobbled Matt's career though, it couldn't have happened any better or more poetic than it did.

smark hasnt literally meant "smart mark" since the 90s. everybody has been smart to the business since the dawn of the internet. since the early 2000s on wrestling forums "smark" has been used to refer to wrestling hipsters. you would know that if you weren't underage and insecure about being called a smark
