He was the first guy in WCW to have the sense to put the world title on Bret Hart, and yet people shit on his WCW run. It was worse before and definitely after when they made him collaborate with an out-of-touch Eric Bischoff. By 2000, wrestling had passed Bischoff by and it showed. yet Russo gets all the heat. and yet, I'd rather watch 2000 WCW over 2022 AEW or 2022 WWE

I don't really see the problem. Why the fuck would Pearce make it for the last spot when there are guys already qualified for the match? He's illogically complaining about logic.
Plus that whole thing was to give Corbin a win while setting up McAfee/Corbin for Summerslam which is in a few weeks.

it was from Bret getting injured and not being able to defend the title. And then Chris Benoit leaves and the title gets vacated again. Too much vacating killed the title and the rest of the year was a disaster for the title too. hurts the whole company when the main belt isn't taken seriously. But Bret would've been a great champion if he didn't get hurt.

Nah. WCW was in a rapid decline with him before the injury. Really no different than Vince trying three times to make him the face of the company and then every time taking the belt off him within a couple of months because business always declined with him at the top of the card.

There were really good SmackDowns in 2000. I loved the episode where HHH is holding a raffle to see who his next victim is and he goes hard to get Rikishi over as a threat when he pulls his name. Practically spends half the match begging him off.
