>>6269216There's been pro-wrestling in a few countries in Africa for decades, but nothing successful enough to be all that notable.
It wasn't even the poverty that did things in. Nor the constant warfare, although neither helped. Mexico was poor too, and has been in the midst of a hideous war since '06, but they have one of the best pro-wrestling scenes in the world. What really killed things is that too many African countries -- Algeria, Angola, Benin, Chad, Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Lybia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe -- went communist, either de jure or de facto, during the second half of the 20th Century, and commie authorities hate the fuck out of shit like pro-wrestling, which they considered dangerously subversive, Western, and decadent. The first pro-wrestling match in the Soviet Union didn't happen until 1989, by which point the regime was on its last legs.
A communist regime also saps the population of any discretionary income. What little they can save'd never be wasted on pro-wrestling. Their only hope for viability would be acquiring state sponsorship, which never arrives.
