>Reportedly Colt Cabana's contract was due to expire with no AEW offer for renewal, but when other members of the roster heard several went to bat for him. I saw a discussion recently about how Punk would send AEW staff outside of his locker room to make sure Cabana wasn't in the hallway when he needed to move around backstage. This is your world champion. Further proof in a video of Cabana giving a fan a backstage tour, and then vanishing without explanation when the fan wanted to meet Punk.

Colt Cabana is technically still signed to All Elite Wrestling, but talent were told that wasn't always going to be the case.

As far back as March, Fightful heard rumblings from AEW talent that there was a bit of an internal uproar over the idea that Colt Cabana was not set to be renewed by All Elite Wrestling. Many of the roster assumed initially this was due to the contentious relationship (or lack thereof) with CM Punk, however, in the months that followed, the lessened focus on Dark Order in general and AEW not coming to terms with Alan Angels and Stu Grayson, changed some of of those assumptions.

We're told by numerous AEW talent that they caught wind several months ago that there was word that Colt Cabana's deal with the company was not being renewed. Cabana is an extremely popular person backstage both from his work in AEW and outside, and we've heard that numerous talent voiced their displeasure and went to bat for Cabana. Since then, he'd ended up working the ROH Supercard event.

Sources indicated to Fightful that Colt Cabana is almost never at AEW TV, if at all, and hasn't been booked to compete in some time. Around mid-April, most believed that Cabana was re-signed as a part of the ROH brand. He remains on AEW's roster page.

I like Colt, but it's not even a cobtest that Punk's more important to the company. He's their biggest draw by any metric you measure, and he can still wrestle at the level of a main-event singles star.

I'm glad TK found a diplomatic compromise. But if he couldn't've, he still should've chosen Punk.
