It's a shame what happened with NWA Power:
They had poor timing and debuted within a week of the first episode of Dynamite. AEW was always going to the bigger deal to start since it was on TV, had more smark favorites and had Dave on their side. Whatever it is about AEW, their fans are extremely satisfied with their product and not only don't care about other promotions, they do not want them to succeed.
While they really did find some capable wrestlers, they weren't super popular wrestlers and they kind of felt like washed up old WWE and TNA guys. They also didn't do enough to get new up and coming talent on these shows.
NWA fired Cornette, which was a stupid move. He's one of the biggest internet personalities out there. He could have shilled the show weekly and if nothing else, more people would be aware of it. They tried to appeal to the reddit types with this, who didn't watch the show and weren't going to.
They really messed up by shutting down during Covid and Covid messed a bunch of promotions up. It lead to people like Starks and Eddie leaving and it lead to AEW poaching them. People ask why wrestling can't be seasonal, and that's why - because if you aren't booking someone regularly, someone else well.
Moving to Fite was a bad idea. That was never going to work.
Them having the women on the show is an anti-draw for me and I'm not watching transgender wrestlers.
They also don't have Dave Meltzer on their side. I've seen lots of promotions come and go like WOW, Wrestlelicious, WSX, Lucha Libre USA and Lucha Underground. Even though they had TV, they didn't have Dave. If Dave doesn't actively talk about your promotion, the IWC just won't care.
I also think there's just too many wrestling options and not enough time. I don't know how much wrestling the average person needs to watch, but my guess is 1-2 shows a week are enough. And every promotion has VOD or is streaming now, so there's tons of competition.
