Who was more popular Rock or Austin?
Austin was indeed a star, but when it came to popularity, Johnson clearly was more "over" with the fans. His pops are unmatched. Arguably the best mic worker in professional wrestling history.

Austin never got a pop like this after 99. Rock surpassed Austin Summer of 99 and never looked back. Everything important ran through The Rock after Summer 99. The creation of Smackdown, Kurt Angles 1st title, Hogan WrestleMania, Brock Lesner 1st title, Goldberg's 1st PPV match.

They were both about equal. Rock had the better career outside WWE, but both were on equal footing in the ring. Both were gold on the mike and the crowd always popped for them both.

Austin was always bigger. Its to Rocks credit that he gets compred to Austin because nobody was ever as big as him. Hogan got a lot of Mainstream attention back in his day becasue he was the first really big national star but Austin was bigger than even that
