We had this problem when Rey won the title at WM22, pinning Orton for Angle's belt (when even Angle won it in a battle royal and never beat the previous champ himself).
You gotta preserve the lineage and make your champ look strong, and that involved Cena beating The Rock straight up with no excuses.
