His title run during lockdown cemented it I think. Things were pretty shit but you could count on Mox to cut a great promo then predict how he was going to beat his opponent, and then do it. He's still my favourite AEW Champion.

Now he has to wrestle in high school gyms on the weekends to make ends meet. Said that his frustrations with WWE drove him to drink, but his drinking problem got much worse under AEW. The real reason is that he always was the true standout but he didn't believe in his WWE character and the management tried to push him as the third wheel because Hatch picked seff and Vince picked Roman. Dean kept getting over because Seff was a heel and no one liked Roman, so he kept on getting shit that pushed him to the point where he himself said that he was just there to pay off his truck. Then the DEANO interview came where Austin basically exposed Dean for not really caring anymore.
When Mox left he gained his love for wrestling back and this is why it seems like he is the breakout star.

And let's be honest, he was just a balding brunette white guy with slicked back hair he was the least cool of the group, Roman was the big guy, Seff was the high flyer (with the best hair), if the shield was a beat em up game Dean was only the All Rounder safe guy, and definitely the Janetty of the group.
After they broke up he was the most interesting tho.

Dean has always been my favorite, but come on now. That feud was great (until Vince shat on it by having every match end with Seth bullshitting his way through it and then the fucking Wyatt shit) but Seth absolutely carried his end of the deal as well. They were both excellent in it. Reigns basically went to shit the second he left Shield and Dean and Seth went to shit the moment their feud concluded poorly.
