So if we use the same time and took Rocky Maivia and left him with the EXACT SAME GIMMICK of Good Guy Roman/Blue Chipper Rocky, that means that Die Rocky Die Dwayne would've gotten all the way to January '02 before turning heel once.
That means that Rock would've won the IC title multiple times over Triple H, as Smiley Maivia, Beat Mankind over and over as a conquering good guy, headlined vs. Austin with his debut gimmick, won the 2000 Royal Rumble, had his title chase in 2000 with Triple H drag on with a character that people dislike and generating sympathy with Austin turning heel on a greatly reviled Rocky Maivia at X7 wouldn't have worked at all.
That's how fucking stupid pretending Roman was any good as a babyface is. It wasn't just "smart fans" it was half the fucking building everywhere WWE went for years. It wasn't as terrible at the time because there were still lots of entertaining portions of WWE programming.
But everything outside of the main event scene has been so fucking heatless for I don't know how long.
