He was fine as a transitional champ a certain group of fans loved him so give them a few weeks then get the belt on the next guy you want to properly push. It looks worse now because he necked himself after btfoing his wife and kid if he didn't no-one would remember his run just like thousands of other transitional champions.

Yea after his death. Guy was anti dimes as champion. He was great in 03 as US and tag champs. He could’ve had a good run as champ if he didn’t become white meat mr “I’m the underdog who overcame adversity in my life” guy. Just be the Mexican guy who cheats and has funny backstage segments. I think the biggest issue with 2004 was the departure of Brock. I think had he stayed just for a little while longer until WrestleMania 21 where he puts over Cena then it would've been better. At least for SmackDown anyway.
