Sure, having ties with them is still a huge scandal but they're not as powerful as they were in the Showa period. Most of their profits come from pushing drugs, they can't extort money from establishments or do loan sharking. Just the act of threatening the a civilian is enough to put the head of the yakuza family in the slammer.
