My headcanon is that TK or someone close to him really doesn’t like talent self anointing themselves as aew royalty. Even originals like the bucks or cody. It explains why they’ve been burying the 4 pillars ever since that stupid moniker came around and it sorta explains that weird thing between Dan lambert and brandy that seemed a little too real

Cody seemed to be under the impression that he could not only be a VP and a "face of the company" person but also book himself and his wife to be super important and included on almost every show...meanwhile his wife was less likeable every time she was on camera and Cody booked himself into some of the worst storylines AEW has ever put forward. Contract renewal time, delusional Cody probably thinks he will make a mint and has all the cards due to his reality show etc....meanwhile Tony didn't give a fuck and Cody overplayed his hand.

Cody already said what happened. He said he's never compete for the AEW title. Once Punk came and it looked like Tony's new toy was in line for the title, Cody wan't to go back on that and be a part of the main event picture and Tony said no.

Cody knew that AEW champ = more money and more prestige (he calls it winners purse or some dumb shit) and saw that Punk was gonna come in and be a bigger star than him so he left.
