EVIL is based but I don't like the idea of "ironic heat" being bad. I have always liked cheering for villains in movies, both them rising to power, being dicks and getting their comeuppance. That doesn't make them bad villains.

Not every heel needs to be the same. Jay White and EVIL are perfect heels on their own terms.

I'd agree with that. But in American wrestling you almost exclusively get the 'ironic' or 'cheap heat' heels. So it's a good change of pace when a heel gets actual heat and the crowd wants to see them lose. KENTA attacking Naito during his WK moment comes to mind.
