If half of the characters and storylines from wrestling were in fantasy television show or movie the same people would have been laughed at and questioned when they took it too seriously or wore shirts with the masked avenger on as a grown ass man.
I think the people who tried too hard to justify their interest in wrestling and push back against people pointing out it was fake and gay just egged it on and that's why it happened.
