>He was indicted for steroid distribution and acquitted in a 1994 case that really shouldn’t have gone to trial. However, had Linda McMahon not been tipped off about Dr George Zahorian being “hot,” (being the subject of an investigation with a raid of his office on the way) and the company had hired Zahorian, knowing he was a steroid dealer since he sent shipments of steroids directly to McMahon, the trial result would have been different, as would the history of wrestling.
Had WCW not creatively imploded and recognized the need to push more younger stars, had Ted Turner not lost power, if there was no Steve Austin or The Rock, the history of pro wrestling would have been written very much differently.
>The reality is that life, all of it, is about luck, situations and opportunities. You can make things happen, work hard, and be very good at what you do, but without the right timing and luck, chance meetings, everything ends up differently. Vince’s 80s success came with luck and timing but he was more on the ball in the big picture than his rival promoters. He still had a huge advantage based on New York, with the national media, and with running Madison Square Garden. During the key part of the 80s war in 1984-85, he had his shows on both USA and TBS, and highly-rated specials on MTV, where he became the hot brand in much of the country. A later deal with NBC and the success of WrestleMania put him on top, a position he held until 1996, and regained in 1998, never to lose it again.
