They did their absolute best to make shit look believable. A guy like Benoit had absolutely nothing else at his disposal. A charisma void, small, not a good talker but I'll be damned if he didn't make his shit look absolutely devastating.
Ironically, every mark in the ring claims to worship Bret Hart and he had a lot of the same shortcoming (I think his mic work was pretty underrated though). He wasn't a retard who spammed moves. He just made shit look intense and damaging. Compare him to the shitty dance routines chucklefucks that litter the wrestling landscape today. It's laughable to even say they belong to the same profession.
