You’re right about wrestling, but it didn’t used to be this way. It used to be construction workers and bodybuilders who got recruited at gyms.
You’re wrong about MMA. Most MMA fighters are just guys with personal family trauma. I knew a guy who was moderately successful at it (he lost a ME to Jeremy Horn once), the driving reason for his being in it was that his dad died when he was 8 years old. Vanderlei Silva was bullied for being fat, Bas Rutten for being small. “Popular chads”? Not even close
