The average wrestling fan has a positive or neutral opinion of Phil, its only on /pw/ that he is seen as a WOAT. That's not entirely true. Everyone saw him humiliate himself in UFC. Sure they might have been willing to let it go when he made his return to the ring but nobody forgot it happened. And then when he did make his return to the ring every saw him gassing out 90 seconds into every single match he had. They just sort of acted like it didn't happen and that he was still the "best in the world" but they saw it. And they definitely saw him ruining his title win by botching all over the place and then getting himself injured. Marks are gonna mark but Phil can only push it so far. If he comes back and starts stumbling around the ring and fucking up moves again then the prodominantly smarky workrate fans are eventually going to turn on it.

It is entirely true. Phil would have to be much worse for a much, much longer period of time for the average wrestling fan to turn on him. And the UFC thing is exactly what I'm talking about in reference to /pw/ echo chamber delusion. Nobody outside of this board cares enough about kayfabe for a shoot fight to affect their opinion of a fake fighter. Years ago when I said Phil would be welcomed back by marks with open arms after he got BTFO, my post got 30+ (You)s calling me insane. And then that's exactly what happened.
