Also that people were able to find communities in which there were people like them, so they started to feel like they were normal and there was nothing wrong with them.
I used to have a friend, since he was a teenager he always was open about being gay, he was kinda ugly so he didn't have much boyfriends or anything, but he was pretty normal. Then in mid 00s he starts to lurk the internet with all the forums, chatt apps and all that shit, he slowly went into a rabbithole and in the early 10s he told everyone that he was going to start transitioning. Turns out that he met a guy that gave him a lot of attention on internet and started to treat him like a girl, he probably never had that kind of attention, so I guess his thought process was that he needed to act as a girl to get the attention he wanted.
