Why don’t smarks realize that wrestling is a fake fight? And that, going back to the old carny days, the whole gimmick was to generate drama to get people hooked into seeing these faked fights?
No one cares about vanilla midgets doing le wacky flips, they want characters that they can root for or hate and see them in engaging story lines.
Even promotions like UFC know this which is why they want their fighters to go off at promo events. Conner McGregor outright said he loved old WWF and acted like such a crazy arrogant asshole to play into his favorite wrestlers, and he would even do the Vince walk around the ring. He did this Bc he knew it would make people hate him, thus willing to pay the money for the paperview to see him get his ass kicked.
