Rocky was a Patterson project from the start. Patterson was the one that had him go home after he floundered and practice his punches and cutting promos in front of the mirror. The Rock name was given to him by J.R.-- while pitching him to turn heel. The suggestion to turn him was an effort by the team. Rock himself said Vince and J.R. pitched him to turn heel.
Russo has some good ideas, but he's generally full of shit for most of it.
