>>6705453>>6705460yes of course it's fake, that's why (fake) matches have to make sense within to confines of the lore and the characters
you can't build the lore and characters as something and then portray something completely different in the matches
Flashes here and there, sure, like flukes
But in a big match situation like this, the biggest match of the year, the world title fight between the two top guys, an hour+ long match, you can't just throw all the context out of the window and portray something different that doesnt make sense without any good storyline reason as to why it when down that way. And certainly not in such a definitive manner. Shawn basically schooled Bret for 45 on the mat. Then you had 15 minutes of back and forth high speed action that was evenly matched, then the overtime finish.
There's no reason why the first 45 should have gone down that way. There was no story given, either before or afterwards. Maybe if they did a thing in the leadup where Bret was getting too cocky (muh dungeon, muh family, muh skillz) and promised he would make an example out of Shawn. Then it would make sense because obviously the explanation is he severely underestimated Shawn who secretly did special mat wrestling training to prepare. Or maybe Bret was carrying an injury (cringe but they do this fairly often so it's not out of line with WWE) so that gave Shawn the advantage and he cleverly leveraged it. They did none of that. It was just out of left field, no context before, no explanation afterwards.
I can understand wanting to do mat wreslting for at least the first 30 minutes as they had to pace themselves. But even then, it should have been the other way around. Bret schooling Shawn. Maybe even getting cockier and cockier as the match progressed, so as the minutes ticked by the crowd would kinda sour on him and get behind Shawn, in time for the fast-paced portion of the match. A kind of mild mini heel turn within the match. But what we got was dumb.
