I mean this in complete sincerity, why the fuck did everything go to shit in AEW the second he left? I'm a Codychad for life and I fucking love this guy, but I can't get over how you can almost pinpoint the downfall of AEW to his departure.

Also just pointing out, the worst storylines AEW had before Cody left were protagonized by the Codester and his wife, so much that the crowd started booing and Cody being a bitch left to the E despite being the one who brought the whole Us vs Them angle as appointed by everyone including himself,.

You can pinpoint AEW's decline to the introduction of Rampage, the reign of Hangman and the overpushes of Adam Cole and CM Punk. Cody has nothing to do with any of these and for all his good points was himself actively dragging the show down with his awkward booking.

It didn't, it's been a slow burn of injuries so the top guys have not been on the show together all year and and feuds that go on too long.

And the pacing being fucked up cuz Jericho's shit has been going on so long with so much time means that the setup for the build to DoN was hella rushed, the last 2 episodes could easily have been 4.

The big issue is that AEW has actual pillars that carried the company, Jericho, Moxley, Omega, and MJF.
Anything worth anything in the company revolves around those 4 men throughout the entire company’s existence.

2 of those pillars are gone and the company is presently hobbling on whatever Mox/BCC or Jericho/JAS are doing.

Cody leaving was a sign of AEW sinking, not the cause. The major problem was always Tony taking full creative control. The Elite can be cringy but they clearly know more about wrestling than Tony, so even if the EVPs needed to be controlled a bit, it was better than Tony just doing repetitive and boring shows. If you look at the first two years, AEW was full of crazy shit and it had that "indie with a big budget" which really felt different from any major promotion before.
Now look at AEW under Tony's control:
>A bunch of random jobbers vs main eventer or strong midcarder
>Every feud advances by post-match attacks
>Barely any story besides "I want to fight you!!"
>The few good stories take too much time to finally pay off
Say what you will, but AEW should have stayed being booked by Kenny, Bucks and Cody, with Tony just being there to act as a filter for their ideas

Cody was not the problem.
The problem was TK allowing Cody to go and do what he wanted unfiltered and with little regard for the show as a whole.
Cody segments were like their own mini-show within the main show. TK is the one responsible because his philosophy to booking is "Just let them have fun lmao" or "lets allow comedy shitters that expose how glaringly fake it all is to sniff the title-scene"

Cody was the one member of the "elite" that actually had GOOD matches. Kenneth is the single most overrated wrestler alive today, the Young-Cucks are incapable of having a watchable match, and Hangman got fucked the moment he was lumped in with the Job-Order.
So considering this, Cody, knowing he was worth more than what TK was paying him, asked for a raise (as he should) TK said no, so Cody went somewhere that would pay him what hes worth
He goes to the Fed, and immediately becomes the top babyface.

Cody is a generational talent, who loves this business and deserves all the praise he gets.

In the last 6 months he has lost the Cody faction (Cody gone, MJF on the rocks), Punk is injured, and Blackpool Combat Club don't feel like they really protect their spots (Bryan and Moxley are happy to put anyone over etc) so you really just have Jericho putting on shitty segments while the Bucks & Kenny dominate the creative direction of most of the company.
