The interview had less than nothing to do with it. If anything, I imagine WWE would've been annoyed with Steve (or as it so happened, the producer) for what happened there.

They just never see Ambrose as a top guy, no matter what he did, no matter how over he got. They only put the title on him because Roman pissed hot. Besides that very small space, they just saw him as the hot dog cart guy. Which is why he bailed a couple years later.
