I seen them at Sydney big day out festival and they were yelling at everyone to stop being rough in the crowd and no one stopped so they made sheep noises and left the stage never came back.

When they split I followed Sparta only. Never did listen to a single mars Volta song. Only Sparta's first album was any good. Jim's album was good too

Pitchfork 20 years ago was hilarious because their writers would praise overwrought bands like The Decemberists but shit all over the bands stoners liked for being "pretentious" like a real call-coming-from-inside-the-house situation. Some of their reviews back then were kino though, like the Eminem Show one and the one where they just embedded a 144p youtube video of a monkey pissing into its mouth

Same shit happened to me at a Bad Religion show in 2006. Fuckin lead singer told us to stop slam-dancing cause it was kicking up too much dust and was hurting his throat. So in true punk fashion, we moshed harder. I like to think he did it to goad us and not cause hes a pussy.

Lol yeah they do that shit all the time. An album from 20 years ago becomes and after the fact classic and they go back and slob all over it so they can be right in hindsight.
One time I picked up the Pitchfork EIC in a uber during SXSW. I asked why the reviewers were so pretentious, she just laughed and said 'its an arms race'
