In his latest podcast, William Regal says that Slade had more UK #1 singles than The Beatles, and were second only in overall total to Abba. This is absolute lies. The record for most UK #1 singles is held by Elvis Presley with 21. The Beatles are second with 17. Slade only had 6, the same number as David Guetta. (ABBA had a solid 9, the most for a mixed-gendered act). While this does nothing to detract from how popular Slade were in the 1970s in England, and they remain an integral part of the country's musical heritage, podcast co-hosts need to be more vigilant in fact-checking these claims from men who are - let's be honest here - carnies.
