The PPV numbers are estimates. AEW isn’t a public company and isn’t subject to reporting standards regarding revenue/buys. Further, the PPV companies don’t release numbers publicly.
These were always estimates based on readily available internet statistics, mainly by Brandon Thurston and Mookie, neither of which have a background in media. Brandon was a mediocre wrestler and computer programmer for the government/DOD, while Mookie was a equity/business analyst for a variety of companies, including investment banking and pharma.
Adding to that, Mookie works for AEW and Brandon is his former partner, which gives them a vested interest in showing “good numbers”.
I think they are 20% higher than what they actually are. Just my take.
